2016 Main Wedding | Britta + Austin

Where do I even begin to talk about this gorgeous 2016 Main wedding? Britta and Austin really pulled out all the stops. From inviting KC Wolf to help kick off the party to hiring a live painter to document their day, they really pulled together the absolutely perfect wedding!

Britta and Austin hired me right before the pandemic became a thing, little did we know it would still be a thing 10 months later. It may have not been an easy journey, but they rolled with all the punches!

The day started with Britta getting ready at the gorgeous 2016 Main Wedding Venue. This venue is seriously stunning. It’s owned by a photographer, so I knew the lighting would be great, but I wasn’t expecting such a unique space. Since the venue doubles as an art gallery, there were plenty of beautiful backdrops to choose from. I especially love the white wall in the getting ready area.

We continued with a first look in front of the building and then we took the wedding party on an adventure through the Crossroads and Liberty Memorial. For November, the day was pretty perfect. We had clear skies and 50 degree weather. It doesn’t get much better than that in November.

After exploring, we went back to 2016 Main for the wedding ceremony, and in true 2020 fashion, these two were married over Zoom. Yep, I didn’t actually believe it at first when I saw the laptop, but their officiant was unable to travel thanks COVID. She was actually the dean at the law school where they met and said she wouldn’t miss this for the world. Thank you modern technology for her to still be able to play such an important part in their day.

During the reception, they surprised their guests twice! First, they coordinated a 6-minute first dance with a mash up of some of their favorite songs. Then, once again to the surprise of their guests, KC Wolf crashed their party. Does it get much better than this???

They also had the most epic wedding cake I have ever seen! It was divided down the middle, half a traditional wedding cake and the other half had Austin’s formal air force uniform and medallions. It was gorgeous and the detail was absolutely perfect.

So, if you follow me very closely, you know I love a good exit. Not only did Austin and Britta have sparklers after their ceremony, but they had glow sticks at the end of the night! COVID through a wrench in their plans of partying all night long with the 10 pm restrictions, so they made the most out of it. Instead of being bummed they couldn’t continue the party, they booked a getaway car and invited their guests to send them off.

Seriously, this entire wedding was a dream come true for me to photograph, but my favorite part didn’t have anything to do with all the awesome photo opportunities. My favorite part had to be the way Britta and Austin looked at each other. Even though these two had a tear-less first look, Britta couldn’t contain her emotions as she was walking down the aisle. The reality set in. She was finally marrying her best friend. The look on her face is absolutely priceless.

Throughout the entire day, she would give Austin that same look. The look was filled with so much love, respect, and appreciation. This look can’t be put into words, so I guess you’ll have to keep scrolling to see the images 🙂

Ok, let me talk about Cindy Scott for a second. This woman is frickin’ amazing. She is the live painter Britta and Austin hired. I had worked with her in the past and we knew each other from social media, but I hadn’t seen her in action before. She drew these two the most perfect picture to document their day. When the night was over and the final picture was revealed, it was fun to watch their reactions. Britta could not stop thanking Cindy for the amazing painting as she saw every guest, including KC Wolf, painted to perfection. Seriously, if you have considered treating yourself to something different to document your day, hire Cindy. Like now. She’s worth it.

I usually don’t post pictures of people looking straight at the camera, but I can make an exception for KC Wolf.

Thank you so much Britta and Austin for trusting me with your day! I had so much fun capturing your love and documenting all the moments of your beautiful 2016 Main wedding. You two are incredible and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!

We love the different vibes from each corner of 2016 Main: the greenery wall makes a perfect backdrop for our ceremony, while the brick wall covered in local art behind our King’s Table gives the reception a fun Kansas City vibe, and the white wall near the guest tables makes for another fun area for guests. The combination of the different walls makes it an elegant yet fun space, which fits our personalities perfectly.
