One foot in front of the other, Kathy walked down the aisle, slowly, with a large smile and tear in her eye. After taking a seat to the right, their eyes met from across the room. Smiling and crying, neither could contain their emotions. Kari mouthed ‘I love you’ and was met by a reciprocating nod as both looked ahead at Dom, awaiting the entrance of his beautiful bride.

“They love each other so much and they just met,” Sarah said, following the ceremony, referring to her mother, Kathy and her new mother-in-law, Kari.

As soon as Sarah and Dom exchanged vows at the Bride and the Bauer in downtown Kansas City on Saturday, Kari ran across the aisle and wrapped her arms around Kathy. With the recessional in progress, they wanted to hold each other as they watched their two families become one. Family. This really is what it’s all about.

The Bride and the Bauer Kansas City wedding

That moment was just one of the beautiful moments I have the pleasure of witnessing last weekend at the Bride and the Bauer. I loved seeing just how much their families love each other. So often, we see in-laws disagree or pick fights, but both sides could not have been more perfect together. The bond was so strong among all members of this newly formed family.

This wedding day was a special one for me. I had the pleasure of working with one of my favorite coordinators, Katie with Blue Eyes Bridal. I have been looking forward to this day since Sarah hired me more than a year ago, and I knew every detail would be perfect. From the centerpieces to the ring box, every detail was carefully thought out. Sarah actually created every centerpiece to be unique, so each table was different. Don’t even get me started on the florals! Shelley Rundberg with Couture Wedding Flowers is a genius.

And that first look! I have seriously never seen a better one. I’m not going to write out exactly what was said, but Dom’s first reaction to seeing Sarah was absolutely priceless.

To Sarah and Dom: thank you so much for allowing me to be part of such a beautiful day. From the time we met for your engagement session to your wedding day, I knew your bond was special and your love was real. You two are the perfect match and complement each other so well. I loved having a chance to witness your laughter as you enjoyed so many special moments together while we were out taking portraits and during your ceremony. Sarah, I loved how you would randomly burst out laughing during the ceremony. Dom, I loved how you looked at Sarah with so much love and kindness. Thank you again for allowing me to be part of your amazing day at the Bride and the Bauer. You were both so incredible to work with!!

Share your inspiration and the atmosphere you’re creating for your wedding:

I pulled from the exposed brick/tattered concrete of the room and got kind of garden/fairytale/tea party vibes. I’ve purchased almost all of my decorations at goodwill/savers so a lot of antiques, mixed colors, metals, glasses and lots of candles. Hoping to kind of bring the outdoors in, in a way.  And overall, we really just want to get together with all the people we know and love, who have supported us and kinda just party our faces off. So romantic and beautiful but far from boring (hopefully!)

Share how (or why) you chose your wedding venue(s):

We first saw it when we were going through the gallery for First Fridays, I absolutely loved the view and the style of the room, very rough but beautiful at the same time, so simple and yet unique. Really it’s my favorite room I’ve ever entered and I wish I could just live there lol Dom also liked it so it worked out! haha

What is your most valuable piece of advice you can share with future couples planning their wedding?

Don’t stress too much, we were able to start planning one year to the day and it has been PLENTY of time, almost too much! But it’s good in that we can enjoy these last two months before the wedding and just be excited! Finish up the small stuff at the end as it comes. Wedding Wire has been a huge help to me, I mostly only used it for the checklist but even that helped me to understand everything this would entail. Definitely find some professionals that deal with this every day to help! And KEEP TRACK OF YOUR BUDGET! Lol. But mostly, it flies by!!! Take the time to live in it and soak it all in, even the planning process, even if it seems wild in the moment, try to remember, you only get to plan your own wedding once!

What was your favorite part of the planning process?

To me, all of it has been amazing because I’ve really learned a lot about the wedding industry and now I work in it! But probably the most fun and relaxing part for us was choosing our food/desserts. Food/sharing a meal is very important to us both and we’re very proud of the meal we’ll be serving. It means a lot because a lot of these people have been out to eat with us, cooked for us….etc so to provide all our favorite people with a special meal, it had to be perfect.

A little bit about me:

  1. I describe my style as real and vibrant. I focus on bright colors and incredible sunsets. I will force you to break away from your reception during sunset for pictures. You won’t regret it!
  2. I’m a huge animal lover. I own three cats and volunteer whenever I can at an animal shelter. If you ask if you can bring a pet to your engagement session, you will become my new best friend.
  3. I’m a newlywed, so I understand the wedding planning struggle!
