Cedar Valley Forest Wedding | Bridgette + John

After four reschedules, Bridgette and John were FINALLY able to have their amazing Cedar Valley Forest Wedding!

Bridgette and John were supposed to be one of my first 2020 couples, but COVID had other plans. At the beginning of COVID, we all assumed this would be over by the summer so they rescheduled for June 2020 and then again to August 2020. After their third reschedule, they eventually said screw it and postponed an entire year. Like most 2020 postponed couples, they actually already got married. However, it was still so special for them to celebrate with all their friends and family.

Since Bridgette and John hired me early in 2019, I’ve had a long time to get to know them as a couple. I’ve had the privilege of working with them three times over the last two and a half years. We took engagement pictures in the summer followed by family photos with their doggies after one was only given a few months to live. They wanted to have both of the pups present for the wedding, so it was special to get at least some professional pictures with them.

A year later, they adopted Blu and we met up again for family pictures. Blu had cancer and they weren’t sure he would make it to the wedding. But he did! Blu was able attend the wedding! At one point during the reception, Bridgette disappeared suddenly. This happens on occasion and it’s usually because the bride is caught up in a conversation near the bar. Eventually, I found her and asked her to get on the dance floor because the exit was quickly approaching. She apologized and said she needed to help Blu into the car so he could leave. “He’s my baby,” she said. Any excuse involving pets gets a major pass from me. Side note, obviously it’s totally okay for brides to not be on the dance floor, but I try to get them to enjoy the party for at least one song!

Anyway, Bridgette and John are the kindest, animal-loving humans on the planet. I’m so happy I had two and a half years to work with them! It’s a little bittersweet that their day has finally come and gone, but I’m happy they were able to have the most perfect Cedar Valley Forest wedding.

Share the inspiration and atmosphere you’re creating for your wedding:

We chose a travel theme as we love to travel and explore the world, but we didn’t want it to be overwhelming. We wanted soft and elegant yet fun and fancy.

Share how (or why) you chose your wedding venue(s):

After our original venue cancelled our wedding on us three times due to covid, we decided we needed to branch out. I wanted a venue that was flexible with beautiful outdoor options and a lake.

What is your most valuable piece of advice you can share with future couples planning their wedding?

Have fun! Make the wedding authentic to you and what you like. Your day will be wonderful even without spending thousands.

What was your favorite part of the planning process?

I am very organized so I love planning. Working with the vendors and seeing my vision come to light was so much fun! The end product is the best!
