Eagles Landing at Lake Olathe Wedding Venue | Kansas City Wedding Photographer
Eagles Landing at Lake Olathe is one of my favorite wedding venues in the Kansas City area — and I say that as someone who has photographed weddings all across the KC metro. The large windows, white walls, and stunning lakefront setting make it a dream to shoot in, and the surrounding park gives couples so many natural backdrops that the gallery basically builds itself.
I am Elizabeth, a Kansas City wedding photographer with E. Golden Moments, and I have documented several weddings at Eagles Landing over the years. This is my full photographer’s guide to the venue — what makes it special from behind the lens, what to expect on your wedding day, and a look at real couples I have had the privilege of photographing here.

About Eagles Landing at Lake Olathe Wedding Venue
Eagles Landing at Lake Olathe is a city-owned event venue managed by the Olathe Parks and Recreation department, sitting right on the edge of Lake Olathe in Johnson County, Kansas. It is one of the most naturally beautiful wedding venues in the entire Kansas City area, and it has a way of feeling like a hidden gem even though it is just minutes from everything.
The setting is genuinely hard to beat: mature trees, open water views, a dock that extends over the lake, and enough natural landscape to fill an entire wedding day with stunning backdrops. Couples who choose Eagles Landing tend to want a wedding that feels relaxed, organic, and connected to nature — and this venue delivers all of that without requiring a single decoration to do it.
It is also a more intimate and affordable option compared to some of the larger private estates in the KC metro, which makes it an especially smart choice for couples who want a gorgeous outdoor wedding without the price tag that usually comes with it.

Why I Love Photographing Weddings at Eagles Landing
Let me be honest: not every venue is a photographer’s dream. Some spaces have challenging indoor lighting, awkward layouts, or no natural backdrops worth using. Eagles Landing is the opposite of all of that.
Here is what makes it exceptional from behind the lens:
The water. Lake Olathe is the real star of this venue. The water creates natural depth and reflection in portraits, and there is something about having an open body of water in the background that just makes everything feel more cinematic. The dock is one of my favorite spots to use for couples portraits — you get this beautiful, uncluttered background with the lake stretching out behind you.
The light. Because the venue is set on open water with minimal obstructions to the west, golden hour at Eagles Landing is exceptional. The sun sets behind the tree line across the lake and creates this warm, glowing backlight that is honestly some of the most flattering light I shoot in all year. I build the couples portrait portion of every Eagles Landing wedding timeline around that window.
The variety of backdrops. Beyond the waterfront, there are wooded paths, open grassy areas, and architectural details that give us options throughout the day. We are never stuck in one spot, which means the gallery ends up feeling full and dynamic rather than repetitive.
The scale. Eagles Landing is not an overwhelming mega-venue. The layout is manageable and intimate, which means the day flows easily and I can be everywhere I need to be without feeling like I am chasing the wedding around a sprawling property.

Tips for Getting the Best Photos at Eagles Landing
After photographing multiple weddings here, I have learned a few things that make a real difference in how your gallery turns out.
Explore the park Eagles Landing is so much more than the venue itself. You have the entirety of Lake Olathe to explore. From a splash pad to a super cool waterfall, make sure your timeline allows for you and your wedding party to explore.
Use the lower waterfront. Every couple I have photographed at the dock has walked away with some of their favorite images from the day. It is a naturally dramatic setting and it photographs beautifully in every season. Make sure your timeline carves out at least 10-15 minutes there.
Getting ready rooms are small. Plan to stage a few getting ready shots outside of the actual getting ready rooms since the rooms are pretty small and not the prettiest. Make sure your partner is hidden away and then you can go anywhere in the venue for much prettier photos!
Ceremony light can be harsh. Depending on the time of year and your ceremony start time, midday or early afternoon light can be pretty harsh. If you plan on an outdoor ceremony, just be aware it might be bright out, but it’s still worth it!
