Why do you do styled shoots? This is a question my husband asks me literally every time I tell him I’m off to a shoot. Yes, there is no money involved and it does take away time I could be spending with him or editing images of real clients. So, why do I do styled shoots when I’m already crazy busy?
It’s simple really. I do styled shoots because I love them. They give me the opportunity to really get my creative juices flowing. As much as I love real weddings, I don’t have a say in the colors or floral arrangements. With styled shoots, I get to help design the full thing in order to create something never seen before. I get to create inspiration for the next generation of brides. Yes, my job is to photograph weddings, but I didn’t enter this career to be just a wedding photographer. I want to be a resource and every styled shoot I participate in gives me the opportunity to create something unique, beautiful, and inspiration. That is why I do styled shoots.
My latest shoot at Executive Hills Polo Club was no exception. I have been planning this shoot with Hannah of Eleven Events and Planning for close to a year now. She brought up the idea of doing a brunch-inspired shoot and I fell in love. The majority of weddings take place around dinner, so why don’t we do something different? Brunch food is really the best, so why not showcase it.
After originally planning on the shoot taking place last Fall, it had to be put on the back burner and rescheduled a couple times. I’m so glad we were finally able to make Hannah’s vision come to life.
The entire vibe for the shoot was light and airy, surrounded by luxurious florals and of course, brunch food. I’m so glad I could be part of it!! Thanks Hannah for asking me!
Also side note, I may have taken the entire cake home and this is my conversation with my husband.
Him: “What are we going to do with a whole cake? I guess I can take it to school.” (He’s a teacher)
Him after one bite: “Nevermind….”
The cake is still sitting at our house and is worth every calorie.
