August 24th. This is the day Janelle and Russ pledged to spend their lives together at Executive Hills Polo Club in Kansas City. But, this date means so much more to them than that. Seven years ago, on August 24th, Janelle and Russ started dating. One year ago, on August 24th, Russ asked Janelle to marry him on a bench at Liberty Memorial. Since August 24th was so special, they knew they couldn't get married on any other date.

In fact, these two actually hired me before they had even selected their venue. They knew they needed that date. The venue was just a minor detail that needed to be figured out. I'm so glad they chose Executive Hills Polo Club. I've shot at this venue multiple times and I'm so excited to have a real wedding there! It's a gorgeous space and Janelle decorated it so beautifully.

But, this day isn't about the gorgeous venue; it's about the love they share. Janelle and Russ are so perfect together and it's obvious how much they care about each other. Leading up to the first look, I was talking to Russ and he was saying he's going to cry. The groom tends to cry on occasion, but they rarely want to admit it. Russ said he had been tearing up all day thinking about this moment. There were no extreme waterworks, but the emotions were so obvious the moment they looked at each other.

Oh, I guess I should talk a little bit about all the incredible details of the day as well. Not only did they have perfect weather, I'm talking 70 degrees and cloudy (a wedding photographer's dream), they also served popsicles, played the most hilarious game with Mike King (if you need a DJ, hire him now), and had the most delicious candy bar. Who needs cake when you can have ALL the candy? Janelle and Russ also hired the absolutely perfect vendor team (Janelle's makeup was incredible and don't even get me started talking about that food) making this one of the absolute best wedding days! Ok, I do need to talk about the food. Plaza Catering never disappoints. They served all the vendors a plate of steak. Yep, an entire plate. I seriously considered stuffing what I couldn't eat into a candy bag and taking it home. It was soooo good.

You all should know how much I love talking about food......anyway.....
To Janelle and Russ, you are so fun and I loved having the opportunity to spend your wedding day with you. From the time we first met to your engagement session, it was so obvious how much you loved and respect each other. Your love is special and I'm so glad I was able to capture it!

We chose it for handicap accessibility (thought my sister would be able to come), and for the beautiful chandeliers, lighting, openness, bar area, building and of course, Trisha (the owner).
