Historic Flander Hall wedding

Flander Hall Wedding | Morgan + James

Let me start by saying how much I love these two and loved their Flander Hall Wedding in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Even before I was hired, Morgan and I immediately bonded over our love of cats, sarcasm, and Harry Potter. She seemed like someone I legitimately wanted to be friends with. Even without our mutual interests, I knew I wanted to work with her because she was a referral from one of my favorite 2018 brides. Yessi and Mark had an incredible wedding, so I knew Morgan and James had to be just as good! This was the second time I shot at Flander Hall, so I knew the space was gorgeous alone. This beautiful couple made the venue even more incredible.

Even after the planning process began, I saw so much of myself in Morgan. Well, that sounds creepy, but we experienced wedding planning in the exact same way. She hated every second of it! It's not too common I have the opportunity to bond over a mutual hatred for wedding planning, but it happened. I found my wedding planning doppelgänger. Not sure if I used that word correctly, but we're going with it.

Despite Morgan's wedding planning hatred, the day turned out to be absolutely flawless thanks to LaTasha with Veil Events. She was on top of it all making sure Morgan didn't need to stress about a thing. I would like to think I also helped out in making the day as stress-free as possible. 🙂

We could not have asked for better weather. When you're getting married in November, you never know what to expect. Thankfully Morgan and James had 60 degree weather. Our portrait time was incredible with the gorgeous weather mixed with Fall colors.

For the ceremony, Morgan and James opted to not have a first look. James really wanted to have that first look at the altar moment, so Morgan told me in advance that if he doesn't cry, she's turning around and doing it again. While no visible tears were shed, both their reactions were priceless. Morgan was so overcome by emotions right before she walked down the aisle that she had to stop and take it all in.

My favorite part of the entire day had to be the reception. James works for the Kansas City Royals and the man who plays Slugger is a personal friend. They told me in advance that he would be making a special appearance to open up the dance floor, but they kept this surprise secret from the guests. The DJ had me take a group photo before realizing Morgan's "uncle" was missing from the shot. After yelling for the "uncle," Slugger made his grand appearance and all the guests went wild. The dance floor remained packed the rest of the night.

I just want it to be romantic and fresh. Very simple.

I love what Flander Hall has to offer. We had it for the weekend and it was just so breathtakingly beautiful with the bridal suite to the brick walls. We actually only looked at this venue and decided it was done! James always laughs that he got off easy.

What is your most valuable piece of advice you can share with future couples planning their wedding?

oh goodness! Its easier said than done but don't stress the small stuff and remember the only people who need to be happy that day is you and your significant other! I would also so to be sure and communicate. I was a control freak and thought I could do it all by myself! I wish I would of let go more.

What was your favorite part of the planning process?

Honestly, i'm not the bride who's gonna say I love all of it because I hated the whole thing lol!! I don't do planning very well. I am not organized and I stress over the littlest things. If I had to do it again I would of done a destination wedding and had it all planned for me! Im just very thankful to the friends and family who helped me. My MOH was a god send, along with my Day of Coordinator Latasha and of course you!
