Guys….a dream of mine came true over the weekend.
I could spend paragraphs talking about how much Chelsea and Syndi love each other or how relaxed their entire day at the Historic Elgin Hotel was, but I really just want to talk about what happened after the wedding day.
When Chelsea first reached out to me more than a year ago, she didn’t just ask me to photograph their wedding. She asked if I would be willing to come to their home in Caldwell, Kansas to photograph them at their farm. She mentioned all the animals they have and how important each one is to them. Obviously when you ask me to photograph animals, the answer will always be hell yes.
The wedding was only a few weeks away when tragedy struck their farm. Several of their goats were killed by dogs. As soon as I heard this terrible news, I wasn’t sure Chelsea and Syndi would even be up for the session anymore. However, being the strong women these two are, they decided to still do the session and have a special picture dedicated to the goats who were lost. I didn’t include this image in their post because it was a very private and heartwrenching moment. This was the first time they had a moment to stop and grieve.
I’ll never forget what Syndi said at the end of the session. Her words gave me meaning. Her words made me remember WHY I do what I do. She asked Chelsea if she told me…I was confused at this point having no clue what they were talking about. Chelsea responded with no, so Syndi continued to tell me the story. When Chelsea was growing up, like most girls, she had dreams about her wedding day. However, she never thought much about what her dress would look like or who she would marry. All she ever dreamed about was sitting on her horse wearing a white dress. “You made her dream come true today,” Syndi said to me.
Oh my heart! Not only was this shoot a dream come true for me, but I made someone else’s childhood dream become a reality! This, right here, is my WHY for my business.
Ok, I have one more story for you! Anyone who knows me knows I’m a huge cat person. I love kitties so much and Chelsea and Syndi have several (6 or 7 maybe). I joked multiple times about taking a cat home with me. “We want them to be where they’re meant to be,” Syndi said, “and if it’s not with us, that’s ok.” I so wish I could have taken them all with me.
I love how Chelsea and Syndi have such a heart for animals. Most of their animals have been rescued from bad situations and have been giving a second chance at life on their farm.
Thank you so much Chelsea and Syndi for giving me this incredible opportunity to get to know you both and spend time with all your animals. From the time we met for your engagement session, I knew just how perfect you are for each other. The way you truly care about each other and look out for each other is incredible to watch. I can’t wait to see how your love grows. P.S. totally moving in with you…. lol

It was also very important that our family was able to stay at the venue with us since the majority are from the east coast. Being able to rent the whole hotel was perfect for our needs!
