Legacy at Green Hills Wedding | Kiley + Sam

November 3, 2020

Kiley and Sam had such a beautiful Legacy at Green Hills Wedding on Saturday!

I love this venue so much! The last time I had the pleasure of shooting here was in 2018, so I was excited to be back and hang out with some of my favorite vendors!

Let me start by talking about the weather because you never know what you are going to get in Missouri. Well, it turned out to be absolutely perfect. Leading up to the wedding day, it snowed so there was a very real possibility of cold and grossness. This wasn’t the case at all. It was a beautiful 60 degree day with plenty of sunshine!

Kiley and Sam are so adorable together! From the morning to the exit, Kiley was nothing but smiles. She even texted me in the morning asking if I need some caffeine to get me through the day. Obviously the answer is yes and she showed up with Starbucks in hand for me. I feel so special!

My favorite part of the day had to be all the ways Kiley incorporated her grandpa. He passed away a few months ago after almost 60 years of marriage to her grandma. In order to have him be part of the day, she wrapped her bouquet in one of his shirts. Her grandma didn’t know about this in advance and Kiley made a point of showing her during family formals. Typically, family formals are the time when I’m all rush and not taking time to enjoy the moments, but I couldn’t help but pause and witness this moment. Kiley and her grandma hugged and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Small moments like this are one of the reasons I love weddings so much. This is a moment they will treasure forever.

During the open dance portion of the reception, I witnessed moments I have never seen before. Kiley is the only granddaughter and always dreamed of dancing with her grandpa at her wedding, so Kiley’s mom surprised her by having all the other grandchildren share a special dance with her. Once again, I paused and focused on her grandma, who was welling up the entire time. She was with her husband for 60 years! I can’t even imagine how hard this must be on her, but you could see the joy in her eyes while she was watching Kiley share this special dance with all her grandsons.

I don’t cry at weddings ever, but I couldn’t help get emotional watching Kiley’s grandma experience these moments. There are no words to describe how hard it must be to lose the love of your life and each tear told the story of such a strong love. Even though Kiley’s grandfather couldn’t be around for the day, he was honored in so many special ways and these memories will never be forgotten.

Anyway, as emotional as those moments were, the real story here is Kiley and Sam. I loved watching them interact and laugh together. From our engagement session to wedding day, I could tell how fun their relationship is! Here’s your full preview! Thank you for letting me be part of your Legacy at Green Hills wedding! Share your inspiration and the atmosphere you’re creating for your wedding:

We’re wanting to have a fun atmosphere that night. The look were going for is rustic

Share how (or why) you chose your wedding venue(s):

We loved the open air concept of the venue and how there was a house where we could get ready in and then stay that night with our bridal party since they will all be from out of town.

What is your most valuable piece of advice you can share with future couples planning their wedding?

Don’t get married in a Pandemic- seriously! It’s made the whole planning process that much more complicated.

But also, have fun with the planning and don’t get too stressed out about it. No matter how much planning you do, something will go wrong that day, and you just have to roll with the punches. In the end you’ll be marrying your best friend and that is all that matters

What was your favorite part of the planning process?

Trying on dresses! It was fun to see what I liked compared to what those who I went shopping with liked.
