If you’re looking for a wedding venue that’s peaceful, pretty, and close to Kansas City, The Legacy at Green Hills checks all the boxes. It has a quiet outdoor ceremony space, a modern open-air reception area, and those wide-open views that make everything feel extra special without making your guests drive hours to get there.
Tucked just north of downtown, it has such an easygoing, romantic feel. As a wedding photographer, I love how everything is within walking distance, the light is always flattering, and couples can really make the space reflect their style.

What the Light Is Like (and Why It Matters)
One of my favorite things about this venue is how clean the natural light is throughout the day. The ceremony space is shaded by trees in the afternoon, which means no harsh sun or shadows in your photos. The open fields in front of the barn are perfect for golden hour portraits and glowy sunset shots.
If you’re planning a later ceremony time, golden hour here is unbeatable. Plan time right after dinner for portraits around the tree line or in the open fields behind the venue.

Tips for Your Wedding at The Legacy at Green Hills
- Plan time for sunset portraits: The open fields around the venue are stunning with golden hour light.
- Bring comfy shoes: There’s a little walking if you plan portraits near the lake.
- Book the venue for an overnight: For Saturday weddings, the venue allows you to book the house for the night before. This is definitely recommended if you want to start getting ready early in the day!
