What to Look for in a Wedding Videographer

Hey there! This is the seventh article in the series “How to Hire a.” I’ve been talking to several industry professionals and each week, I will publish another article in the series.

Wedding planning can be hard and annoying. I know, I’m going through it as well! So, hopefully I can take some of the stress off of you by giving you valuable information.

This series will help you know what to look for when hiring different vendors. I had each vendor answer a few questions that will give you insight into how his or her business is run and what you should keep in mind when looking to hire that particular vendor.

Next up: Lucas Cohen with LFC Media. Lucas is an incredible videographer. Last year, I think he did about 50 weddings. I’ll never know how he can survive doing that, but he always seems to do an amazing job. He’s one of my favorite videographers, so if you’re looking for someone to do a fantastic job, check him out!

Three fun facts:

  1. I am color blind
  2. Brittany and I own 17 pets (not including fish)
  3. I play ukulele

How far in advance do you usually book up?

We are all over the map! Sometimes we get booked 18 months in advance but other times it’s 3
months away. We’ve even done some night before bookings! The sweet spot is probably around 9
months to a year but really it could be at any time.

How many months before the wedding do you recommend couples book you? Why?

If you love our work and want to book us then obviously the sooner the better so we can reserve
your spot! But really it’s all up to the couple. We love to get to know the couple and have some
conversations before the wedding but its also really fun (and flattering) that we get some short notice
calls and people made some wiggle room in the budget last second for us!

How many weddings do you do per day/per weekend?

We only shoot 1 wedding a day so we could do 2 or 3 in a weekend if you count Friday!

What do you want couples to keep in mind when researching your service/others offering the same service?

The best thing to keep in mind is there are A LOT of people out there doing the same thing we do over at LFC Media, and that’s a good thing! Compare and contrast, do your research, talk to more than one of us. You’re not going to hurt my feelings if you decide to go a different direction. Ill be happy that you found someone that is a better fit for you! I can probably help point you in the right direction if you don’t see LFC Media as a good fit.

Also, when you’re researching, fall in love with the videographers, not just their videos. Personality is half of what makes a good videographer. If your wedding day is full of laughs and you feel comfortable around the people filming you, your video will turn out better. If you feel a bit shy or awkward, your video will reflect it. Make sure you hire someone you like and who will add to your special day not take away from it.

What are some of the most common/most important questions to ask about your service?

The biggest question to ask a videographer is if they offer custom packages. Every wedding is different and your package should reflect that. You want to be sure you get exactly what you want and are not restricted to what is listed on a site.

LFC Media has 4 package options to choose from but we are not shy about moving stuff around and getting you exactly what you want. Our packages are more guidelines than anything else. Nothing is set in stone and that includes the price!

What do you wish every couple knew about your service/wedding planning in general?

I wish everyone would know that when you book with LFC Media you’re getting so much more than a video. You’re getting an experience. Brittany and I love interacting with the couple, bridal party, and guests throughout the day. We are there to do a job but we are also there to make you laugh, help with whatever’s needed, give some advice when we need to, and so much more. We have made some really great and lifelong friends shooting weddings and we look forward to making more!

How involved are you in the planning process?

I can be as hands on or hands off as you’d like during the planning process. We shoot about 40 weddings a year so we have a lot of experience with making your day run smooth but we are also 100% ok with letting someone else take care of the planning. We know that one way or another we will make you a video you will cherish forever.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to couples planning their weddings?

The best advice I can give a couple is to fall in love with every single vendor you hire. You only get married once and you want it to be everything you ever dreamed of. I know weddings are expensive and the add up VERY quickly but if you love a vendor in your relative price range, don’t settle for someone else. You may have to put in a couple overtime days but the memories are priceless.
