Chelsea and Brandon had a wonderful Shawnee Mission Park engagement session on Saturday!
Shawnee Mission Park is a location I am at all the time, but it never gets old. A photographer friend recently told me about another part of the park that I had yet to explore, so when Chelsea and Brandon pulled up, I asked them if they were up for an adventure. They jumped on it, so we went on a short hike to a secluded creek area, which was so beautiful. I’m so surprised I had yet to visit this section.
I first met Chelsea and Brandon in December to photograph the proposal. Their original photographer had to cancel and I was contacted with less than a day’s notice. At first I was hesitant to accept a last minute job, but I am so glad I said yes (and I’m glad she said yes as well ?). It was only a couple weeks after the proposal when these two reached back out to see if I would be interested in photographing their wedding later this year. Obviously, my answer was yes.
These two are so fun to work with. Ever prompt I gave and pose I put them in allowed them to show their true personalities. They were laughing through the entire session and I was laughing with them.
We began the session in typical engagement attire, but they also wanted to incorporate some outfits that are very true to them. Chelsea is a personal trainer, so working out is very close to her heart. Brandon is huge into cross fit and got Chelsea involved as well. Since these two bonded over physical fitness, it just seemed right to include this is their session. At one point, I was complaining about climbing up a hill with my 20 pounds of gear on. Later on, Brandon mentioned he did a 3 mile run this morning wearing a 20 pound vest. Moral to the story, be like Brandon. I suppose I’ll need to start going to the gym again…
Thank you so much Chelsea and Brandon for allowing me to be part of so many important milestones in your engagement. We had so much fun for your Shawnee Mission Park engagement session and I know your wedding will be an absolute blast!
Here’s your preview! More to come shortly!
Hear from the couple –
How did he propose?
It was on December 18, 2020 while we were with his family checking out the KC Plaza lights. He took me on a romantic carriage ride, and then we met up with his brother; where I was blindfolded and taken to this fountain/statue area where you could see the lights of the KC Plaza. Upon taking off my blindfold, Brandon was on one knee and asking me to marry him!! I obviously said YES! And then I looked around to see his family… AND my family there!!!!!!! I was so surprised and so excited!! We had this amazing photographer there to help us always remember that day, too!!! 🙂
Question for the bride: what do you love most about him?
I love that he has the biggest heart for others and for serving others. He does so much for anyone needing help without the expectation of something in return. And he does it almost mostly without pause or hesitation. I have never met someone who holds such genuine care for his family, friends, co-workers–really anyone! I am so proud to be connected with him and his heart for the rest of our lives! Also, he is smokin’!!!!!
Question for the groom: what do you love most about her?
I would have to say that her want to always have a huge smile on her face with eyes that are to die for, and then make others smile. Her heart is bigger than the world itself. Her faith isn’t just brought out through her heart that has a desire to care for everyone, it is vocally expressed through her beautiful voice on Sunday mornings. She always brings a competitive edge to everything we do together and pushes us both to be the absolute best at everything. She holds the FAMILY aspect of our daily lives very close to her heart and anything we do as a couple is TOGETHER, which will be carried out in our future together as we grow and then grow our family. And (lol) she puts up with the fact I go 100mph all the time.
What’s your favorite part about wedding planning?
Experiencing new things together! It is fun to learn things that mean a lot and things that don’t really matter at all to each other! Plus fun to prepare for the wedding– dancing lessons in the living room! SO FUN!!!!
What are you looking forward to most about your big day?
From Brandon: Her dress and the first look. the tears of excitement that comes from all the dancing such as her father/daughter dance. Seeing everyone that has taken time to come and celebrate the day and see us start this journey together.
From Chelsea: I’m the most excited to see what Brandon does/says/looks like for the first time! There will definitely be tears shed (I’m pretty much a bawl-bag anyway) in the most beautiful way. I am excited to experience the feel of the day with how sacred marriage is for us and our families, and how long we have waited for the ABSOLUTE RIGHT ONE to start this amazing journey with. I’m excited to share this moment with our families and the blending of our two families as one.
