Shawnee Mission Park Engagement | Laura + Gabe

Laura and Gabe had a fun Shawnee Mission Park engagement session on Sunday. It may have been a gloomy day, but their laughter brings so much light to these images. Too cheesy? Yeah, probably, but Laura’s laugh may be my favorite thing ever.

– Hear from the couple –

How did he propose?

Laura got up on New Year’s Eve and went to her parent’s house to go to Arrowhead Stadium for the Chiefs-Bengals game. Laura had even offered me a ticket to go the Chiefs game and I declined with the excuse that I was in the fantasy football championship game in my decade-long high school league and just wanted to stay home and watch all the games rather than one. As soon as Laura and her family were on their way to the stadium, three of Laura’s friends and her sister showed up to help me set up our apartment with photos, a sign, candles, etc. We then went to her parents house to watch the Chiefs game and set up for the engagement party that would be there. Luckily, despite being in a slump, the Chiefs won and put Laura in a good mood on her way home. On her way back from her parents to the apartment, she FaceTimed me asking if I wanted a drink from McDonald’s and given how I was dressed up I accepted the call with the camera facing the ceiling. Somehow she didn’t notice, and when she opened the front door with a McDonald’s Coke in hand she was shocked… and said yes. It was a well-executed surprise if you ask me!

Question for the bride: what do you love most about him?

There are so many things I love about Gabe, but the main things are his love and passion for sports, his ability to make me laugh on my hardest days, the way he sings songs so confidently in the car even if the lyrics aren’t right, and lastly, his unconditional love and support. He truly is my best friend!

Question for the groom: what do you love most about her?

I love that Laura doesn’t take herself too seriously and is able to be fun-loving with me. She’s understanding of my quirks and is loving through any ups and downs we’ve experienced. She has a huge heart and wants to help everyone — including me — whenever they need something. As someone who hates being overly sophisticated, I love that we can have just as much fun with dinner at Chili’s as we can a fancy dinner at The Plaza.
