Shawnee Mission Park Engagement | Lisa + Ray

It’s Spring and I officially live at Shawnee Mission Park now. I can’t complain about having so many sessions at my neighborhood park. I absolutely love it.

Lisa and Ray’s session was no exception. It may have been a random hot day, but they powered through and didn’t stop smiling. They went along with all my locations around the park and had a great time. Their doggie even made an appearance for a few pictures!

Thanks Lisa and Ray for hanging out with me at Shawnee Mission Park. Here’s your full preview!

– Hear from the couple –

How did he propose?

We planned a trip to NYC to visit our son (my bonus son) and girlfriend at the time (now fiancee) as my fiancè had never been there. I was so excited to experience New York with Ray and the kids, I could not wait to get away! We had made so many plans and even noted a second trip as we knew we could not fit all of our wishes into one trip. We arrived on a Thursday to our son/my bonus son at the airport to help us navigate our way to Brooklyn which is where they live. We arrive, settle in, and then things change, everyone was in a hurry to get to dinner, noone was communicating, no eye contact, etc. and I was lost. We had planned to go eat at a famous ramen restaurant so I just assumed we were trying to bet the rush. Little did I know, we end up in Dumbo (short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass). So we are in a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, now this encompasses two sections: one located between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, which connect Brooklyn to Manhattan across the East River, and another that continues east from the Manhattan Bridge to the Vinegar Hill area, but I have no idea where we are. We come up on a park and I think, oh what a great selfie, but everyone insisted on photos but keep in mind I am not looking the best with a full day of travel, but okay, its beautiful and the Brooklyn Bridge is in the background at sunset. It does not get better than that….oh wait, it does, we take pictures, and I look down thinking something is wrong, ask Ray if he is okay and he is on one knee to my surprise. Once it hit me slightly and he started talking, all I heard was my full name and I lost it completely. I was completely overwhelmed with emotion and butterflies, life stood still but in a great way! As he embraced me, I realized that my soon to be daughter-in-law shouts “she said YES” as there was a crowd of people on the rocks and path that were all watching this moment unfold with their cell phone lights turned on. It was touching! (keep in mind, I do not like surprises and I can’t believe they pulled this off as EVERYONE knew). The night is not over as we move to the other side of the bridge to a beautiful restaurant with the most amazing outdoor dining on a rooftop to celebrate with dinner. Everyone relaxed, cried, and said, we could not hold it any longer; therefore we were unable to look at you or talk without giving something away, so we said nothing, lol. Now it all makes sense! The death grips on bags, purses, no communication, rush to hit sunset, to make it in time for the dinner reservation, the subway timing, everything. They planned everything out and it was all perfect, minus my outfit but I would not trade the moment for anything! The entire trip I was on cloud 9 and was treated like a princess all week! It was a dream come true!

Question for the bride: what do you love most about him?

I love his smile, the way he looks at me, his protection, kindness, his heart, love of family. He 150% balances me, he makes me laughs, he always keeps me safe, keeps me first, has my back, and I can talk to him for days! He allows me to be me with all my faults and scares. He is the love of my life and my ride or die!!

Question for the groom: what do you love most about her?

She loves me! Very protective of me. Family oriented. Takes care of us.

What’s your favorite part about wedding planning?

Learning new things about each other and learning to work together and compromise.

What are you looking forward to most about your big day?

To live in the moment and to be with each other as well as all of our favorite people! Everyone says finally, so excited about making it official!
