Let me tell you about this absolutely gorgeous styled session I had the pleasure of organizing last Sunday at the Bowery in Spring Hill! Be prepared to view some gorgeous beach/boho inspiration!
The idea actually started when I was talking to a former bride (and current intern) about a styled shoot and she mentioned it would be super cool to have a shoot with a real mermaid (well, I mean as real as you can get)! My mental wheels started turning and I began pinning away. Although I loved the idea of having a model dressed as a mermaid, I realized that image probably wouldn’t resonate with the modern bride. Instead of having an actual mermaid, we used the mermaid as inspiration.
I also wanted to be sure to center the shoot around Pantone’s color of the year, living coral. I’m typically not a fan of coral, but I absolutely loved how it was used in this design. I’m not one to follow trends, but I was excited to use coral after Pantone announced it as color of the year. It’s a nice change and not a color I see too often in the wedding world.
The real inspiration for the shoot came to be when I discovered the concept of a dip-dyed dress. I was seriously obsessed since I had never seen such a thing. So, I scoured the internet trying to find one and even consulted with a couple local designers to see if this would be anything they would be open to making. I ended up posting on a national styled shoot Facebook group where I met Katerina. She was looking for updated images of her dip-dyed dress, so she offered to send me one. I was so excited and the rest of the shoot started falling into place.
That was until we were hit with the worst winter in recent history. We were originally scheduled for a February shoot at Smithville Lake. We chose Smithville Lake because it seemed like the most Beachy place KC had to offer. The forecast looked super cold and gross, so we rescheduled to March. It was still cold and snowy the week our shoot was scheduled, so we rescheduled once again. After this time, I decided to try to move the shoot indoors. I didn’t want to have to reschedule once again because of stupid weather, so I reached out to the Bowery. Mallory, the coordinated, was excited to jump on board!
When the shoot day approached, the forecast was calling for snow. What the heck?? It’s April. We were thinking this shoot was seriously cursed. Well, to our surprise, it was actually perfect weather and we had the most breathtaking sunset.
The overall design of the shoot was the work of Emily with E&R Events, Jazmin with Sweet Couture Eventique, and Rosemary with Rustic Elegance Event Rentals. All three of these ladies pulled out all the stops to create three separate table settings. In addition to having an inside reception space, we also had a table by the lake and a head table overlooking the sunset. Every detail was thought through beautifully.
Speaking of details, I contacted Veronica of Veronica Couture Veils to see if she would be able to provide us another gorgeous accessory. I assumed she would allow us to use something from her inventory, but no, SHE DESIGNED A CUSTOM VEIL JUST FOR OUR SHOOT. I was blown away. It was above and beyond what I expected. Thank you to all the wonderful vendors who made this shoot absolutely incredible!
