The Farms at Woodend Springs | Wedding Inspiration

What was the theme?

The theme was none other than rescue animals! We worked to incorporate the animals in every part of the shoot. Our amazing stationary designer, The Prettiest Pixel, did watercolor drawings for place cards and even created a sign expressing our desire to donate to Unleashed. The model also brought shoes with cats on them! Unlike the majority of styled shoots, we didn't have a designated color palette. We described the colors as a neutral rainbow since we used a wide assortment of colors, but still managed to have everything fit together perfectly. We also tried to give the shoot a vintage feel. From the shoes to the table setting, the entire atmosphere screamed vintage elegance.

What was the inspiration?

A few months ago, I saw a blog post of a styled shoot that incorporated shelter animals. I wanted to recreate the shoot with more animals because I have never seen anything like this done locally. Animals often times show up for wedding photos, but I've never seen multiple puppies and kitties being used for inspirational purposes. Pets have always played an important part of my life. I own three cats, all of which were adopted from shelters. In fact, I've never had a cat that wasn't a shelter cat. My fur babies are so sweet and it absolutely breaks my heart to see animals without homes. All the animals we worked with were seriously the sweetest!

The four puppies involved in the shoot were on an euthanasia list in Louisiana. Unleashed brought them here so they would have a better chance of being adopted. I can't even explain how sad that makes me. These puppies did nothing wrong other than being born and they were going to be killed for it. They are so sweet and I have no doubt they'll find amazing homes here.

So, my main inspiration for this shoot was to help shelter animals find homes and feel like I'm doing something good with my photography. I used to volunteer at an animal shelter every week, but haven't had time this year with being a full time wedding photographer and planning my own wedding. I miss feeling like I'm making a difference, so I'm so glad we could partner with Unleashed to help all these sweet fur babies find homes.

What was different?

Uh animals, duh! Besides the use of animals, we had so many unique design elements. That table setting screamed unique vintage elegance. Hannah, owner of Eleven Events and Planning, said it's unlike any table she's ever done. All the place settings were mismatched, but it still had a cohesive feel. The stationary by The Prettiest Pixel was also incredibly unique. I am so in love with photographing stationary and this was seriously the most beautiful set I have ever seen. I've been talking for several paragraphs and I haven't even gotten to the most unique aspect of this shoot. We had a hanging cake! That's right! Chrystal, owner of Petals and Pastries, hung the cake from the ceiling! I've seen this trend in larger markets over the past few years, so I asked if it was possible for her to do. She jumped on the idea! Originally we wanted to hang the cake from a tree, but due to the torrential downpour, we were stuck inside for most of the shoot. I was disappointed, but she still made it work and it looked incredible!

Overall, the shoot was absolutely perfect! Thank you so much to everyone who contributed!

Animals: Unleashed Pet Rescue

I am so excited to share this passion project with you all from the Farms at Woodend Springs! This one is especially close to my heart because we worked with Unleashed Pet Rescue to incorporate shelter animals. Unleashed came to the venue with four puppies and three kittens. It was seriously the cutest shoot I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I just wish I could have taken all the animals home, but hopefully this shoot will raise awareness for the shelter and get every pet adopted!
