Renee and Alex had a beautiful Fire Stables Wedding in Lenexa last Saturday. While my associate team was hanging out with Jessica and Lucas, I was at the Fire Stables with these two.

For those who don’t know, the Fire Stables is a real horse barn turned wedding venue! The venue part is modern, so you would have no idea you were in a horse barn, besides the horse fountain statue in the center of the room. When my second shooter and I were scouting out the area for a portrait location, I was surprised to find several horses on the property. Even though I knew we would be in a horse barn, I didn’t realize there would be actual horses present for the day! Although we didn’t stop to take pictures with the horses, this venue is every farm girl’s dream! I’m sure the horses wouldn’t have minded appearing in a few pictures if we had time.

The day started with a torrential downpour, forcing us to move the ceremony inside. Renee wanted an outdoor ceremony, but she cared more about keeping her guests comfortable. Thankfully, she had an amazing planner who was able to make the inside look incredible! Alyssa with Simple Elegance took this blank canvas of a horse stable and turned it into something elegant and beautiful!

After the rain subsided, every bit of this day was perfect. From their precious first look to their fun wedding party photos to a glow stick exit, we had so much fun capturing their day on photo and film.

When I first met Renee and Alex at their engagement session, it was quickly obvious how much fun they had together. Alex has such a goofy personality and has no problems making Renee laugh. This was still true during the wedding day. Even during our most romantic portraits, he had to sneak in a few hilarious faces.

One of the highlights of the day had to be when Alex noticed the tribute chair dedicated to his mom, who passed away when he was four. He had no idea Renee was planning this surprise and it was obvious how much this setup meant to Alex and his brother.

Share your inspiration and the atmosphere you’re creating for your wedding:

I want to create a fun end of summer wedding. the colors represent our fun and outgoing personalities. Alex and I aren’t the most traditional of people, or the most calm or quiet. we are loud and a bit rowdy, and just laid back outgoing people. I want our wedding to reflect us and who we are as a couple and as individuals.

Share how (or why) you chose your wedding venue(s):

I Chose my wedding venue because it was exactly what I was envisioning and what was in the budget.

What is your most valuable piece of advice you can share with future couples planning their wedding?

Renee – Don’t lose sight of what that day is really about. You’re not just planning a wedding, you’re preparing for marriage and starting your life together. It’s about the marriage, not the wedding.

Alex – Elope.

What was your favorite part of the planning process?

Dreaming about how fun that day is going to be, and enjoying watching my vision come to life that day.

Thanks for visiting!

A little bit about me:

  1. I describe my style as real and vibrant. I focus on bright colors and incredible sunsets. I will force you to break away from your reception during sunset for pictures. You won’t regret it!
  2. I’m a huge animal lover. I own three cats and volunteer whenever I can at an animal shelter. If you ask if you can bring a pet to your engagement session, you will become my new best friend.
  3. I’m a newlywed, so I understand the wedding planning struggle!
