Last week, I had the privilege of putting together a beautiful wedding inspiration shoot at The Guild in Kansas City!
When it comes to the offseason, there's not much on my todo list. In order to get my creative juices flowing, I love working on inspiration shoots. For a lot of inspiration shoots, we try to showcase the best of the best, the most luxurious wedding us vendors could dream of doing. This inspiration shoot, however, was meant to resemble the average Kansas City wedding. We refrained from going too elaborate, so every idea you see could definitely be replicated at your own wedding. The concept is still absolutely beautiful, but it is also very attainable!
This shoot at The Guild in Kansas City came to be when I was talking to my good friend Taylor with The Perfect Touch KC. We were talking about how diversity, specifically in inspiration shoots, is lacking. We wanted to show real people in love and show love is love. We're in the business of love and strongly believe that all LOVE matters.
That's where our models came in! I've known Licelle since high school. We worked together at the library and she actually helped me jumpstart my photography career by referring a couple weddings to me. My first wedding ever was for a couple of her best friends. I met her girlfriend, Lauryn, last summer during my sunflower mini sessions. It was so obvious how much these two love each other. Not only do they love each other, but they have a blast together. They love laughing and just being goofy together, which is amazing to see. I can't help but crack up around them. They are seriously an incredible couple and I'm so happy to know both of them!
When Taylor and I began brainstorming the shoot, I immediately thought of them. I wanted to showcase a crazy-in-love couple that you don't often see in these type of shoots. Couples who are planning weddings want to feel represented in the industry and it's a sad reality that we don't see too many LGBTQIA+ couples in bridal magazines or even in individual portfolios. I really wanted to show my commitment to inclusivity with this shoot and display beautiful images with real people in love. Plus, it doesn't hurt that these two are pretty much the most adorable people ever. I was so excited when they jumped on the idea.
Let's rewind a bit. I had the pleasure of working with another LGBT+ couple last year and the first question they asked me was "if I do same sex weddings?" I honestly was shocked when I got that question and I was sad they felt the need to ask. They went on to tell me how they struggled to find vendors who would work with them and that made me even more sad. No one should ever feel like their love isn't valid by vendors. Hopefully one day, we will get to the point where it's assumed instead of needing to ask and expecting rejection. Love is love. It's that simple!
Okay, I just had to get this rant out since this is a topic very close to my heart! Thank you for listening! Now, enjoy all the pretty pictures! More to come shortly!
