Jenny and Chance had an absolutely gorgeous wedding at the Heritage Center (aka Mahaffie) in Olathe on Friday.
These two have been together six and a half years. They actually met in high school, but it wasn’t official until college. As their friends and family said on Friday, they are still as inseparable as they were so many years ago. This wedding was a special one for me. Jenny has been my intern for the last year, so I’ve gotten the opportunity to know her better than the majority of my brides. Let me tell you a bit about how Jenny and I met (since even though this post is about Jenny and Chance’s gorgeous wedding at the Olathe Heritage Center, we really know it’s all about me).
Jenny and I first met about a year and a half ago at a bridal expo. She walked up to my booth and told me she follows me on Instagram. That sounded exactly like something I would say, so we hit it off. A few months later, I was reintroduced to Jenny when she joined a local photography group. I found out she had just started learning about photography and was eager to learn more. We talked for a few months and then I asked if she would be interested in going to a wedding with me in June. She had such a love for weddings and was more than willing to help me out. I knew she was getting married in a year and I was getting married in a few months, so we bonded over engaged life. We talked about vendors and I found out she hadn’t hired a wedding photographer yet. Trying not to push my agenda too much, I let her know that I’m still available on her date. Living life on a teacher’s salary, she wasn’t sure what she could pay for photography but I was her first choice. This made me incredibly happy and I knew I needed to do everything in my power to help give her the wedding of her dreams. We worked out an arrangement. She interned for me all year and the rest is history. I’m beyond grateful I had the opportunity to get to know Jenny over the last year. She is an incredible human, a wonderful photographer, and I can’t wait to work with her more in the future. She’ll be second shooting about half of my weddings this year and I cannot wait to grow our friendship.
This leads me to the story of Jenny and Chance. I had heard so much about Chance over the last year, but I didn’t actually spend any time with him until our engagement photos. Even then, it was clear how much he loved Jenny. Their love was evident every time he looked at her, and that stayed true throughout their wedding day. The way he looked at her brought everyone to tears. On top of all the raw emotions, the day was exquisitely decorated. Jenny created it all, from the calligraphy to the paper products. Chance wanted to do his part, so he spent the morning slaving away in the kitchen cooking some appetizers for their dinner. I don’t know how they did it. I didn’t DIY anything on my wedding day, and Jenny did it all exquisitely. From signature mocktails to a custom designed gown to pizza delivery, I don’t know how Jenny and Chance’s wedding at the Heritage Center at Mahaffie in Olathe could have gotten any more perfect.

Relaxed and laidback, bridal (lots of white), natural, lots of light greenery, focused on celebrating with friends and family

We love the rustic vibe and open space to do what we want with it. We loved the patio space for an outdoorsy ceremony while being able to accommodate for the weather.
What is your most valuable piece of advice you can share with future couples planning their wedding?
Jenny: Please for the love of God don’t DIY everything because there’s a hidden deep-rooted meaning to that…and that meaning is control issues. Chance: Don’t sweat the details – everything will be fine.
What was your favorite part of the planning process?
Jenny: Getting excited to see all of our friends and family on our wedding day. Also the wedding cake tasting. Chance: Seeing how excited and supportive my friends have been.
