Sparkler exit in Kansas CIty

The Madrid Theatre Wedding | Nikki + David

Nikki and David had an amazing Madrid Theatre wedding on Friday. These two were another 2020 reschedule who were already technically married, but decided to do the full party and ceremony after needing to postpone a year.

1920s themed wedding

When I first started talking to Nikki in 2019, she was planning to go full out 20s theme. Since they were getting married in 2020, the theme fit them perfectly. Well, when COVID scratched those plans, they still decided to go ahead with the 20s theme even though the year no longer matched.

From the tables to the bridesmaids dresses, this entire wedding screamed 1920s. They even asked their vendors to dress in appropriate attire. I wore a flapper hat thing for the ceremony. That counts, right?

Nikki is one of those brides who I instantly bonded with. We clicked over our love of animals and creative ideas. I'm always down for anything nontraditional and Nikki and David definitely scream nontraditional in every sense of the word.

One of my favorite parts of the day actually didn't end up happening, but it's the thought that counts. Instead of tossing a bouquet, Nikki wanted to toss a stuffed rabbit. Whoever caught the rabbit is supposed to be the next one to adopt a pet. We totally forgot to actually throw the rabbit, so instead Nikki went home and fostered her own new fur baby. This is such an awesome and unique twist to the bouquet toss if you don't want to give into cultural norms or don't have many single friends.

Like many of my brides these days, we ended the night with smoke bombs. It's actually funny to me because I posted a picture with smoke bombs during a styled shoot 4 years ago. Since then, I have had multiple brides see it and love the idea. It has become a thing with so many of my couples. I mean, if you don't have smoke bombs, did you really even hire eGolden Moments???😂 😂 😂

We're going for something moodier than your traditional wedding atmosphere: lots of soft lighting, feathers, pearls, black, and metallics.

Share how (or why) you chose your wedding venue(s):

We wanted something out of the ordinary - not just a simple rental hall or an outdoor rustic venue- and a theatre fit the bill perfectly. Madrid was the best because it was actually built in the 1920s. We love that we can have our name on the marquee!

What is your most valuable piece of advice you can share with future couples planning their wedding?

Don't try to do it all yourself, you will want to give some responsibility to a professional!

What was your favorite part of the planning process?

Choosing colors, dresses, and decor!
