Brooke and Zion planned an absolutely fabulous wedding ceremony at World Revival Church followed by a reception at The Pavilion Event Space.
As soon as I arrived at Brooke’s house, I could feel how much she was loved. Her bridesmaids graciously allowed me to invade their personal space while they were putting on hair and makeup final touches. They even presented her with a gift – a handmade book with a letter from each of them. Struggling to hold back tears, Brooke said she’ll have to read them later because she’ll cry.
Gift giving was a common theme throughout the day and it all started with that book from Brooke’s bridesmaids and finished with the most precious gift from her grandmother, their first heirloom. Brooke even gave Zion several special gifts during their first look, including a diary that she wrote in most every day leading up to their wedding. And the night ended with the most important gift of all, leaving with their arms around each other to start their lives. Together.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Kathy, Brooke’s grandmother, unexpectedly grabbed the mic as we all fought back tears. The speech was unplanned, but as soon as Kathy stood up, the entire room grew quiet.
She began her speech with a story about how Brooke first came into their lives. She unexpectedly showed up on their doorstep, only a couple years old with messy pig tails. Kathy mentioned how she felt lost and hopeless until Brooke once again gave their life meaning. She created this heirloom shortly after that fateful day and knew it would one day be passed on to Brooke’s future husband and then their future children. This heirloom, the bible verse, framed in gold, will carry their family through good times and bad for generations.
So often, we see wedding days that are just going through the motions. This was not the case with Brooke and Zion’s amazing day. Brooke and Zion didn’t just pray together. They didn’t just read vows. They didn’t just declare their love in front of friends and family. Instead, they formed a meaningful beginning to their incredible futures. It’s truly beautiful how the covenant of marriage is taken so seriously.
