Let me tell you about this super fun engagement session yesterday! We spend a couple hours roaming around the Plaza, which was great, but I didn’t take into consideration how busy it would be on such a beautiful day. Since it was nearly impossible to take pictures without people in the background, we decided to get off the beaten bath and walk the trail along Brush Creek.
Something you may not know about me is I have the absolute worst sense of direction. If I need to go right, there’s a 95 percent chance I will turn left. So, we went adventuring trying to find a bridge over the creek. I went left, and of course we should have gone right. Even though we didn’t find what I was looking for, we found something even better! While searching for the bridge, we came across these gorgeous lavender bushes. It’s not too often you find a hidden gem among the bustling city, but these bushes took us right out of the commotion. I’m not ashamed to admit we spent half the session in this area. It was gorgeous and way less crowed than the rest of the Plaza.
It was a joy to watch Sarah and Dom interact. I often times give the groom cues to make the bride laugh, and Sarah laughed without a problem. Toward the end of the session, instead of giving cues, I just told her to laugh and she nailed it. Laughing on command is a beautiful talent to have.
Sarah and Dom actually get married next month and I am so frickin’ excited. Sarah was a referral from one of my favorite planners, Katie with Blue Eyes Bridal. Side note, I didn’t actually know Katie when she referred Sarah and Dom to me. She found me on the Knot and just sent me an email wanting to connect. Katie had just opened her business and I’m so glad she found me. This random connection has allowed us to become close friends in the industry and create so many beautiful images together.
I’m seriously so excited to see what Katie has created for Sarah and Dom. It is going to be an incredible day for sure!

– Hear from the couple –
How did you meet and how long have you been together?
We met at a party when she moved to Lawrence to start attending KU and we’ve been together for 5 years.
How did he/she propose?
He proposed during the last formal dinner of a week long cruise, on Christmas Eve. We were on the trip (and at dinner) with her parents and all of her siblings.
Question for the bride: what do you love most about him?
The thing I probably love MOST about him is how much he LOVES his family. Who have now become my family as well. I love that his favorite thing to do is make me and everyone around us laugh. I love how unconditionally generous he is. He would give someone the shirt off his back if it was all he had to offer, and they wouldn’t even need to ask. I love how much he loves children and can’t wait to raise our own. I could go on forever. <3
Question for the groom: what do you love most about her?
She refuses to take no as a answer. Her drive to continue pursuing her dreams is inspiring to everyone around her. And while doing that, she knows how to have fun, she isn’t all work or all play. She is the best quick-witted, determined, passionate partner I could have asked for.
What’s your favorite part about wedding planning?
It’s been very stressful but with each choice we make it becomes more real. So I’d have to say my favorite part is being able to slowly picture our day. The day we make it official and celebrate our love, with all of those that love us.
What are you looking forward to most about your big day?
Finally being married and being able to celebrate it with everyone that’s loved, supported and influenced us.
