William Jewell College Sikh Wedding | Gustavo + Andra
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of photographing such an interesting wedding! Most of my weddings tend to be a bit nontraditional, but this was so different than anything I’ve ever done.
Gustavo and Andra live in Virginia, but chose to get married at William Jewell College during a yoga retreat. The wedding was deeply rooted in Sikh traditions. Sikhism is rooted in the Hindu faith and engage in a form of marriage called Anand Karaj meaning “Blissful Union.”
The couple remained seated on the floor through the majority of the ceremony along with all the guests and shoes were removed prior to entering the ceremony.
They exchanged blessings, vows, and a traditional wedding kiss. Following the ceremony, cookies were served while a line formed to hug the bride and groom. Upon exiting, rice and rose petals were thrown.
Thank you Gustavo and Andra for asking me to be part of your special day!
